PRODUCT REVIEW: Ultimateaddons iPhone 6/7/8Plus Case

PRODUCT REVIEW: Ultimateaddons iPhone 6/7/8Plus Case

We were greeted with an absolutely beautiful day to kick off the Biking Season and it set a great scene for us to be able to review the Ultimateaddons iPhone Tough case and mount we were sent last week.

Having some form of GPS Navigation on your motorcycle is a bit like marmite, people either love it or hate it, but for us, the practicality of having your route right in front of you is worth its weight in gold and we love it! However, mounting a device to your motorcycle isn’t always as easy as you may think it be, not safely and correctly anyway. The Ultimateaddons range of products allows you to do this with practically zero effort.

We got our hands on the fork stem case mount kit for the iPhone 6/7/8 Plus which offers a range of different fork stem sizes to mount directly on to the steering yoke with a 1″ ball mount and the 3″ extender. Starting from £49.99, the price isn’t the cheapest available on the market but I’m a firm believer in a fair price for a good product.  But what did we think of it, does it deserve a place in our topboxx?

Initial Impressions

The first thing you notice about this kit is the build quality, it’s fantastic. I’m not ashamed to admit that I have purchased my share of ‘eBay Specials’ and you really can tell the difference between a quality product.  The fork mount is solid and only requires 1 Allen key to fit and tighten it, the extender is metal, sturdy and again fantastic quality. One of the best features of the case is the shock absorbing silicone layer inside which helps create the perfect fit for your phone, it puts your mind at peace when trying to protect your fancy smartphone. The option to remove the case and use my phone to take photo’s with little fuss was also a big plus for me.

Fitting the kit

Fitting the kit is extremely straightforward and takes no more than a few minutes to do. It’s as simple as removing the cap on your Fork Stem if you have one, inserting the fork mount, tighten with an Allen key and place the plastic protector cap on. Adding the extender and phone case is just as simple with a few clicks, tightening and you’re there. Fitting your phone into the case is simple with 2 lock clips to unfasten and 3 pressure clips around the edge. The phone fits in perfectly snug and space at the bottom is available so you can plug your charging cable straight into the phone and have this protected too. There are other mounting options available if you would prefer to not use a fork stem mount.

On the road test

We tested the kit on a 100-mile round trip to make sure we gave it plenty of time on the road.  I was worried that there was going to be some issues with vibration on the mount which could make the screen hard to see, however, I was pleasantly surprised to have practically no issues at all. Because of the way the kit is mounted to the yoke, it provides fantastic stability and seeing the map was no problem at all.  The mount extender was also a fantastic addition to allow you to position your phone in the best place for safe visibility whilst riding. We were lucky enough to have no rain on the trip today, however, I did make a point of pouring a large bucket of water over the case when I returned home and the IPX5 protection certainly did its job stopping any water getting inside the case.

Verdict

It’s not often that I am that impressed by a product that I can find nothing wrong with it, but in this case, the Ultimateaddons case and mount ticks every single box and I would highly recommend the range to anyone looking for either their first or a replacement mobile phone mount for their motorcycle. And I promise you, I’m really not being biased. This kit is worth every penny of the £59.99 price tag for peace of mind that you are getting a fantastic, reliable and sturdy product to protect your phone while out on the road.

Our rating

Probably the easiest decision I’ll have to make on reviewing a product – a strong 5/5 from me, I will be purchasing the iPhone X case when it is released.
